The Cap de Creus Natural Park is the first maritime-terrestrial park in the country. In the land area, 3 natural sites of national interest (PNIN) are established, to the north of Cap Gros-Cap de Creus; to the south the one of Punta Falconera-Cabo Norfeu and to the west the one of the Mountain range of Rhodes; The islands and small islands located in the marine environment of the Natural Park also have the same condition. The first two also include two integral natural reserves (RNI), that of Cap de Creus with the islands of s'Encalladora and the Mace d'Or and the one of Cap Norfeu.
Dolmens and castles, cliffs and vineyards dominate the valleys and hills, while in the sea, small barren islands and reefs of capricious shapes hide spectacular coralline backgrounds and varied marine species.
The Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park has several areas defined. The integral natural reserves (RNI) are the areas with a higher level of protection. We could say that they are areas of the Park where nature can manifest itself in its maximum exponent without succumbing to the dangers of its destruction. The rest of the space declared a natural park is ordered by population centers, farmhouses and cuts, agricultural productions and all the economic and social activity that derives from it. At the same time, there is an area dedicated to public use so that visitors can enjoy, learn, sensitize, feel and remember the experience of their visit.
Els Aiguamolls de l'Empordà are one of the natural spaces in Catalonia where a greater variety of animal species are observed. The birds make the Aiguamolls its refuge and resting place and there are more than 300 species, many of them protected and of great beauty.
So far 329 bird species have been cited, of which 82 are nestled on a regular basis.
